St.Pauls Cathedral from Fleet Street c.1910

St.Pauls Cathedral from Fleet Street c.1910

St.Pauls Cathedral stands on top of Ludgate Hill, one of the
two hills on which original London was founded. It is in the very heart
of what is now the City, the financial district of London.

Fleet Street leads up to St.Pauls Cathedral. Around the world
the expression Fleet Street has been associated with popular
press journalism, as until 1980s some of the biggest publishing houses
were situated here.

This continued a long tradition which originated from St.Pauls. In
the Middle Ages the Church was the most important (and often only) source
of literacy
, and St.Pauls Cathedral was the centre of book
trading.
